David Whittaker
Location: Associated Labels: Alternative Software, Additional Information: David was one of the most popular game musicians in the late 1980s and probably the most prolific one. It seems he does not think very highly of himself as composer but many of his songs are among the most popular of classic game music repertoire. He began his career as programmer but found easier to get job opportunities as composer. As programmer he made some games such as well known Lazy Jones. He made his C64 music by programming directly instead of using music programs. Eventually Whittaker got so many job offers that he had to pass some of them to his friends (including Hubbard and Daglish). He has composed for almost every relevant home computer platform of the late 1980s. His Amiga songs are easy recognize since he uses often same instrument sounds in them. A short loop from Whittaker's Lazy Jones game became the basis for a worldwide dance hit "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation. Whittaker was not first informed about the usage of his riff but he later got compensations. After the 1980s Whittaker has continued working in the field of computer sound producing though he has left composing for others.
